Connection – UVTP

30/31 May 2026

Uw Verslaggever Ter Plaatse, Your Reporter on the Ground, likes to work with text. He also likes to make people think or get creative. From observations wheatpasted around town to do it yourself hopscotch poetry, any thing is possible. During the Vijfhoek Kunstroute, an art exhibition weekend in Haarlem, he had three installations on display.

At the central exhibition area, where each participant has one artwork as a teaser, he had a mini Elektro game. A simple game where you try to connect questions with the right answer. If you make the correct connection the circuit is closed and the light on top of the game lights up. The mini one was easy, but at the library he had the big one. That one is tough. It has questions about Haarlem in the seventeenth century and today.

His latest piece is called ‘Verbinding’, connection. He setup four telegraph poles and connected them with a cable. On the cable a message is written. Reading it is a bit of work as you have to translate it character by character. Why? Well… the message was in Morse code, but you did get a translation sheet and a bamboo stick to keep track of your progress.
