For the third year in a row the festival Buiten het Boekje was organised at the main library in Haarlem. This festival is for the teenagers. The first two editions the library was in the lead. The young adults came with their ideas and the library coached them in making it happen. This year it was a true learning experience. The youngsters had to apply to be part of the festival organisation. Together they spent six months creating the perfect festival… from scratch! There was plenty to do, create you own graffiti t-shirt or crochet your underwear style bookmark, and listen to, ranging mystical alternative folk to punk!
I went to see the show of the Hart Talent on Tour team. They had stage in front of the fireplace which dates back to 1562. The Notulist and all participants opened the show together with the Talent on Tour introduction sing. Leela took over with a fine cover of Valerie. Maral and Reinout collaborated again and she gave Reinout a bit of time to show his guitar skills.
The band Eclipse & Echo kept their cool while the technical challenges were solved and nailed their grunge song. Finne closed the show. Host Gene Power ask the crowd to come closer to the stage and sit down. She took no risk with the technique. Just acoustic guitar and no microphones. Her guitar and clear voice easily carried her ‘Chiquitita’ to the end of the hall and captured the audience.
