Singer Songwriter Cirkel Haarlem: Open Mic Night VI

Autumn is back in town and the sixth Open Mic Night hosted by the Singer Songwriter Cirkel Haarlem at café Briljant opened in style on the 4th of october. Pien Van de Rest turned the cafe into a cozy jazz club and grabbed all the attention. Yi Fong Au brought two songs along. Playing with the multiple meanings of words and the globally recognized subject of hangovers it worked great. You can count on Minke Jonk and Oli Tong for your daily doses of maritime folk. Tonight was no exception, even the Little Mermaid came along. Dutch Cassidy dot Com sings about the vast plains of the Haarlemmermeer and the open skies. There is much more to it than watching potatoes grow and listening to grain whispering in the wind. Gwan Brandhorst was challenged by Anouk the previous Open Mic Night. Today he made a first step by translating a Johnny Flynn song into Dutch. He teamed up again with Judith Wesselius for the classic version of Song to the Siren which we all know as Sunrise by Ratty (aka Scooter). Mark Werkman just plugs in his guitar with an artistic buzz and just lets the songs flow. There was time left and Dutch Cassidy dot Com stepped in to fill the gap. The traditional end of the Open Mic Night is a performance of the improvised improvisation group To The Wolves. Judith opened it and almost blew everybody away in a Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares style!
