Singer Songwriter Cirkel Haarlem: Open Mic Night VIII

How can you beef up the sound of a Singer/Songwriter? It’s easy. Add a bass and play it pizzicato! That was the idea of Gert-Jan Kooren. The Singer Songwriter Cirkel Haarlem embraced it and announced his offer to prepare for the evening.

On Tuesday December 6, 2016 café Briljant was dominated by a big shining intimidating string bass roaming the stage. First to step in the arena was Dutch Cassidy. He and Gert-Jan directly provided proof that the sound becomes a lot warmer. Jan Willem Reitsma demonstrated adding a trumpet to the bass works great.

Minke Jonk and Oli Tong always split there set equally. This time Minke only did one song and I missed it… (Sorry Minke). I didn’t miss Oli who was having a great time and invited Jan Willem to join on trumpet. The trio turned café Briljant into a swinging club. Grey Lotus closed the evening. Their minimal line up consisted of Daan Arisz, Judith Wesselius and Joost Verhagen. Jan-Willem supported them on trumpet.

This was another perfect evening hosted by Anouk and a big warm round of applause goes to Gert-Jan Kooren and his bass.
