De Keuken (Kitchen) is a DIY broedplaats and a safe space to showcase new work and experiment. This is an almost monthly returning event at the Pletterij in Haarlem.
The evening opened with Youki Flu. She studied jazz, electronic music and holds a master degree in live electronics. With trumpet and her beautiful voice she took us on a sound journey. Enjoy her performance and click here.
Lorenzo Brilli is drummer and percussionist. He shared his piece Vrihi, which means rice in Sanskrit. A drum kit, metal sheet and a laptop was all he needed to create an experience. Delicately balancing between soft whispers and loud rhythms he took us to the rice fields from planting to harvesting. Join Lorenzo and Vrihi here.
Where Youki was born in Lithuania and Lorenzo came over from Italy, The Irrational Library is a mainly local band and bit from over the ocean. They combine music and spoken word which makes you think about the Last Poets. They support their front man with drum, bass guitar, flute and… baritone sax! As always they addressed what’s going on in society locally and abroad. That did include the behavior of ICE. Embrace their music and words here.
