A week with pride related activities and celebrations can’t go by unnoticed by those who are less aware of the challenges people face when their love is different than the norm, when they identify differently or those brave man and woman who undergo a major transition to make their soul finally at home in their body. Pride March Haarlem took place on a busy Saturday afternoon.
It started at the railway station. With twelve speakers I thought they were going to kill me softly, but… the speeches were short and to the point. Every speaker spoke for the group he, she, they represented and announced the next speaker. This way it went very smooth.
The March went through the shopping center and got plenty of attention. The destination was the festival at the Nieuwe Kerksplein, where Melanie, supported by Susan on sax and the band Drukte van Belang, sang the theme song of the week, Let Love Rule, by Lenny Kravitz.
The March and the whole pride week was made possible by Pride Haarlem, Black Queer Haarlem, Stichting Rebup, Oud Katholieke Parochie, Haarlem Town Queers, Transfem Haarlem, Werkgroep Ready2Kink, COC Kennemerland, LGTB Asylum Support, Dusty Foundation and Protestantse Gemeente Haarlem.
